Snizers
DESCRIPTION

Snizers

Overview

A vile and numerous race. The cunning and cruel Snizers live mainly in the southern sectors. Being a fairly weak and not too bright race, they quickly joined the ranks of those who serve the Surditary and other old dynasties.

Bottom of the Food Chain

The Snizers always remain at the bottom of the "food chain", sometimes literally: Bulvers are partial to eating a Snizer, whose life they hold at nothing, and only the patronage of the Surditary saves the Snizers from ending up as a dish on the table of their stronger neighbours.

In the hierarchy of the Surditary dynasty the Snizers stand at the very bottom, on a level with the universally despised Argels.

Cannon Fodder

In battle the Snizers are always thrown in ahead of the others, often used as a rearguard in retreat or simply as cannon fodder. Mortality among them is extremely high — and not only in Surditary forces and gangs, but also on planets populated mainly by Snizers.

A Contract and a Free Life

Snizer culture revolves around money. A Snizer's chief dream is to serve out a contract with the Surditary and then live a free life. Very few manage it.

Chiefs and Slaves

Snizer society is built on the subjugation and suppression of the weak and defenceless. The lot of Snizer slaves under Snizer masters is invariably grim: they endure years of humiliation and abuse, and the only thing that keeps them from revolt is the fear of inevitable torture and reprisals.

The society is headed by chiefs who supply their young to the Surditary for service and receive in return weapons and technology to control their less fortunate kin.

Appearance

A Snizer is a thin humanoid with red skin, an elongated face and pointed ears.

In the order of the illustrations: a Snizer from the shared sheet of the lesser races of the south, and that sheet in full — a Shchekit on the left, a Bulver in the centre, a Snizer on the right.

Below, with captions, are a Snizer thief, a regular-army recruit, a Snizer of the Surditary units from the Fourth War of the Southern League, and the inhabitants of Snizer settlements: a village elder, a female, a peasant, a rich man, an old man, a mother with a child and a homeless one.
